Located in the heart of the fashionable Saint-Germain-des-Prés district of the 6th arrondissement of Paris, this fabulous property underwent a thorough renovation and modernisation in 2014. To coincide with the one-hundredth anniversary of the return of the Mona Lisa to the Louvre, the luxury boutique hotel is now called Hotel Da Vinci, and offers exclusive accommodation in a central location.
Room 603 of this four-star historic hotel was where Vincenzo Peruggia hid the Mona Lisa after stealing it from the Louvre in 1911. Leonardo Da Vinci’s iconic painting was found only two years later when Peruggia attempted to sell it to a Florentine antiques dealer.
Location wise, the hotel is a few steps away from the River Seine, within walking distance of the Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay and many other important landmarks and attractions. The hotel's chic Left-Bank location also means that it is surrounded by myriad high-end restaurants and cafés, including some of the most well-known establishments in Paris as well as the upmarket boutiques of Boulevard Saint Germain and surrounds.
The hotel’s 24 rooms are named after the leading figures of the Quattrocento (the 15th-century cultural and artistic movement of Italy), including Botticelli, Raffaello, Michelangelo and Catherine de’ Medici. Inviting and comfortable, with furniture inspired from a mix of eras, almost half the rooms have balconies. Some look out over the hotel patio, a haven of peace and quiet, while others, overlooking the Rue des Saints-Pères, afford a glimpse of the Louvre nearby. The bathrooms are extremely well appointed, most come with bathtubs and all are stocked with Roberto Cavalli toiletries.
The hotel is also home to the Da Vinci Café, which features unique wooden panelling and tiling inspired by the famous Café Florian of Venice’s Saint Mark’s Square. Located just right of the entrance, where there is a working fireplace that is lit for guests to enjoy in the winter, the café prides itself on serving some of the best espressos in Paris, brewed using a faithful reproduction of the machine used in the Café Florian. While there is no restaurant, Hotel Da Vinci serves breakfast throughout the day, along with a fine range of fine wines, spirits and beverages.
The highlight of the hotel is the exclusive jacuzzi pool, featuring a spectacular mosaic décor and vaulted ceilings, which is complimentary for guests who need to book in advance to ensure they have the pool to themselves. The hotel offers free WiFi throughout.
