Blancpain GT Series at Monza Race Track Featured

Many watch brands are involved with motor sports in one way or another. Chopard, Tag Heuer, IWC... but it is Blancpain that takes its relationship with Lamborghini much further than co-branding.

What do cars have in common with watches? Quite a lot. Particularly at the high-end level, watches require an amount of time for the development of their "engines," the movement, comparable to the development of a car engine. And the price of a quality watch is not all that different to that of a car.

The brand is one of the principal sponsors of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, an exciting mono-marque event in which the drivers' skill is paramount, because the cars are the same, the Lamborghini Huracan. At the race weekend in Monza, Italy on 23 and 24 April 2016, over 50 cars took part, the largest number ever for this series, in races that were keenly fought, with several cars losing smaller or larger pieces due to brushes in the heat of the action.

For Blancpain, the event provides visibility, but also the chance to introduce VIP guests to its watches, with a hospitality area including a watchmaker demonstrating the latest pieces. Guests can also experience the incredible sensations delivered by a 600 horsepower Lamborghini on a Formula 1 racetrack, with professional drivers whose nonchalance as they throw the car from a blistering 250 km/h on the long straight into neck-wrenching four-wheel drifts on the corners. It's easy to understand why the event is so popular with gentleman drivers at the wheel of their bespoke Lamborghini Super Trofeo racecars.

After successfully developing their partnership through the Blancpain Endurance Series and the Blancpain Sprint Series, world-renowned Swiss watch manufacture Blancpain and the SRO Motorsports Group decided that 2016 would see both successful Series further integrated into the Blancpain GT Series, putting the emphasis on the prestigious overall drivers' and manufacturers' titles.

With both the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup and Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup sharing the same driver categories and points system, the ten round - five sprint events and five endurace events - Blancpain GT Series season crowned the most complete of GT drivers.

A Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup event consisted of two races of one hour per event, while the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup races range from three-hour events through a 1000 km race to the season highlight of the Total 24 Hours of Spa, the world’s leading 24-hour race reserved for GT3 cars.

It's an exclusive club, with the same blend of camaraderie, wealth, sophistication and a smidge of danger as can be found in some of the world's other most exciting sports such as the Cresta Run. A visit to one of the racetracks staging the races of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo is highly recommended.
