Louis Vuitton is possibly the most well-known luxury brand in the world. Its ubiquitous LV monogram is a highly-coveted symbol of status across the Middle East, especially in fashion-conscious Dubai where devotees of the brand reserve the latest products hot off the Paris catwalks.

While the “it” bag may be the obvious choice for the conspicuous consumer, Louis Vuitton’s range of elegant timepieces appeal to a more discerning set of customers. Obvious aesthetics aside, they are exclusively made in workshops in Switzerland with scrupulous care and the finest materials, adhering to the brand’s strict tradition of craftsmanship. It is quite clearly a case of style with substance.

Louis Vuitton began manufacturing traveling trunks in Paris in 1854. Their unique design, quality and durability made such a winning combination that expansion was swift, fuelled by awards from the World’s Fair. When Louis passed away in 1862, his son Georges became instrumental in transforming the company into what is commonly regarded as the first “designer” luxury brand. Even then, the trunks were in such demand that copying became widespread, prompting Georges to create the distinctive LV monogram.

For over 150 years Louis Vuitton has remained at the forefront of the luxury consumer goods market, diversifying to include travel books, perfume, clothing, jewellery and watches. While the luggage, especially handbags have been at the heart of the brand since its inception, the first line of watches only appeared in 2002, a year after the first jewellery collection. Making their debut with the phenomenally successful Tambour collection, it is no surprise that the unique style is still the most popular to date. Since then, they have launched the Speedy collection with lines subtly tailored to both men and women, and the exquisite Emprise, all of which perfectly exemplify the heart of the brand: travel, functionality and exquisite style.

From the impressively large collection of watches on offer, the top sellers in Dubai are all Tambour, the most popular being the Tambour in black, closely followed by the Tambour Lovely Cup. Manufactured in Switzerland under high quality tests, the sapphire crystals used to create each timepiece are 56 times more resistant to scratches than plexiglass, meaning that your beloved watch will stay pretty for longer. Using the latest technology, the watches employ kinetic energy, a mere twist of your wrist powering the movement of your watch, while the hands are coated with Superluminova to allow you to tell the time in the dark. Clever design elements are elegantly integrated into an unfussy face.

The most recent addition to the Tambour collection is the Silver Dust. When first launched, the brown Tambour dial was chosen to reflect the infamous colours of the Monogram canvas. These colours have changed over the years to incorporate the latest fashion shades with the newest, space-age silver flecked with touches of navy blue. It’s the first time these shades have been used in the brand, but it’s as much in the true spirit of Louis Vuitton as ever, finished with an alligator strap and water resistance ratings of 100 meters.

The largest of the three models is the Chronograph Automatic watch with a 41.5mm case. The dial has contrasting black subdials and a date display, all controlled by a self-winding caliber with a power reserve of 42 hours. Designed with the stylish traveler and globetrotting businessman in mind, the 39.5mm GMT Automatic has a secondary 24-hour hand in addition to the time, sweep seconds and date, which gives you the unique option to track a second time zone. The Silverdust Large Quartz also features a 39.5mm stainless steel case and is the simplest of all the Silverdust models, presenting the time and date controlled by a battery-powered ETA quartz movement.

As with everything purchased from Louis Vuitton, you must do so from one of their authorized boutiques. In Dubai, their busiest is at the Mall of the Emirates, with a new store planned in the Dubai Mall. Rest assured that you will receive Louis Vuitton’s exemplary dedication to service and care.
