Audemars Piguet celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Royal Oak collection

by 21 December 2011

Audemars Piguet celebrates the 40th anniversary of its iconic Royal Oak luxury sports watches, with a special edition and movement not seen since 1972. The Openworked Extra-thin Royal Oak powered by Calibre 2121 is a worthy tribute to Gérald Genta, who first designed the Royal Oak, no doubt one of the top 10 watches in the world today. Audemars Piguet is a specialist in ultra-thin movements. The Manufacture in Le Brassus created one of the world’s thinnest mechanical selfwinding movements at just 3.05 mm thick to power its very first Royal Oak in 1972. The openworked movement involved high watchmaking techniques such as engraving and hollowing out the movement. The Openworked Extra-Thin Royal Oak watch is presented in a 950 platinum 40-piece limited edition.
