The Oyster Perpetual has become synonymous with quality mechanical chronograph watches, and has contributed to the legend of Rolex, a maison that began with the visionary spirit of founder Hans Wilsdorf who had the idea of the writstwatch at a time at which pocket watches were the normal configuration for timepieces. The Perpetual rotor, patented in 1931, was also the world's first self-winding mechanism.
