If you're looking to escape the winter blues and find your own private island, you're in luck. We at LUXOS have laboured hard (ok so it wasn't the worst kind of work I'll admit) to find the quietest, most luxurious and downright lovely locations for castaway wannabees this year...
If visions of Tom Hanks' Castaway are what you have in mind for your island escape, Wadigi Island in Fiji is the ticket for you (the film was shot on a neighbouring island). Housing only six guests, this place is extremely private, but with two chefs, a maid and a boat captain, you won’t need to lift a finger. The 14-acre palm fringed Dolphin Island is another castaway paradise, offering a rustic yet utterly sophisticated retreat with fabulous food and a spa, for just eight guests. Spend a night in the open-air hilltop sleep-out bure (thatched cottage), for a truly magical experience.
For privacy on an even grander scale, Vale O at Fiji’s Wakaya Club & Spa, a three-bedroomed bure on a private 16-acre hilltop estate, complete with cliffside swimming pool and unimaginable ocean views, is an awe-inspiring away from it all serene haven.
In one of the remotest parts of the South Pacific, The Brando is a truly special place, an atoll housed inside a coral reef. Its natural beauty is lure enough itself, and the beautifully designed hideaway of just 35 villas, two restaurants and spa, all blissfully discreet, allowing guests to simply sit back and lap it all up.
Velaa Private Island
Escapism and the Maldives go hand in hand and Velaa Private Island has to be one of the Indian Ocean’s most luxurious patches of tranquil paradise. Accommodating up to 80 guests, with every state-of-the-art comfort you could wish for including an overwater open kitchen, ocean-view sauna and even a semi-submarine, this sanctuary doesn’t come cheap especially if you want it all to yourself. You can have the whole island to yourself for just over a cool $1 million a night.
On a slightly smaller scale, but equally as luxurious, and only for private hire (up to 12 guests), is the super sleek and slick Coco Privé Kuda Hithi, with its two-storey Palm Residence, five one-bedroom guest villas, private infinity pools, chefs available on demand and therapists for spa treatments available 24/7.
North Island Seychelles
Another big hitter when it comes to private islands dwelling, is the Seychelles and most notably North Island, where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spent their honeymoon. This is one for nature lovers as the three-kilometre island is committed to wildlife and conservation. The accommodation, made up of just 11 eco-friendly and utterly eco-chic thatched villas is simply divine.
If you have the little ones in tow, the neighbouring and ultra-luxurious Fregate Island Private and its yacht club, PADI centre, tree house and kids club, as well as your own private pool, dining pavilion and butler is a sublime, hassle-free option.

British Virgin Islands
Not as famous as Sir Richard Branson's renowned Necker Island, but equally as lovely is Peter Island, another star of the British Virgin Islands. You can book one of the 20 beach coves for your own private use, stay in one of the three A-list ready remote villas or hire the whole island to yourself if you’re feeling utterly frivolous.
