Spa Review: The Mandarin Oriental, Taipei

The newly opened Mandarin Oriental, Taipei has brought a truly international 5-star hotel experience to the Taiwanese capital for the first time in years.

To experience the hotel personally, I travelled from Hong Kong, the city the Mandarin Oriental hotel group calls home, and found myself walking into a world-class property like in London, Paris or New York. The standard of service and etiquette, dedicated multi-lingual concierge team and world renownded interior design do nothing is make even the most travel-weary of guests feel at home: this new hotel was everything that the Mandarin Oriental lives up to and more.

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Taipei, sprawls 2500 square metres on two floors, the luxury hotel group’s largest to date. Every Spa at Mandarin Oriental around the world has something special to offer and this one is no exception. Spa Manager  Cynthia Lin recommended I try the Formosa Journey for a unique experience of the Asian island country.

Precious sea salt from Tainan City has been chosen as the main treatment ingredient for its preciousness and healing quality. It was mixed with Taiwanese pearl powder and white clay for a sumptuous exfoliating body wrap that left my skin baby soft. The incredible aroma of natural essential oils as they were massaged in from top to toe was beyond restorative.

I sipped an excellent cup of plum tea as this characterically Taiwanese treatment concluded and learnt the exciting news that the spa was in the process of designing a 'wellness gourmet menu' in conjunction with its spa programme. Beauty from inside out - just what the Mandarin Oriental is all about.
