Diego Novarino and the Art of 'Bleisure'

Home to Italy's first Blesiure hotel, Milan's VIU Hotel prides themselves on being an exclusive place to stay that currently does not exist in Milan. Home to contemporary furnished rooms, a rooftop pool and bar and exclusive resturant with Michelin-starred chef. We met with the Hotel's General Manager, Diego Novarino and talked with him about his local tips on the city and his plans for the establishment.

What is your favourite room or space in the hotel?
I have different favourite parts of the hotel; the first is our terrace with the swimming pool, especially at sunset. I can have my favourite drink having a 360° view, looking at the mountains or at the Gae Aulenti district, with the city’s brand new skyscrapers in the distance. During winter, I love our chef’s table in the kitchen where you can share dinner with friends prepared by our Michelin star chef Giancarlo Morelli.

Do you have any further plans with Viu Hotel?
We’re a relatively new hotel, having been open for just one year. But we are ready to change something, for the need of our guests. In March we plan to refresh our terrace, with luxury sofas and different lighting, for an inviting and quaint atmosphere that guests can enjoy during aperitivo.

What is your favourite neighbourhood district in Milan, and why?
I love Brera. I lived in the district for a few years, and there’s a very charming atmosphere. I loved having my breakfast on my days off in one of the many cafes in the district. I would people watch and regularly see shows at the Piccolo theatre, which was close to my home.

Chef table

Can you recommend a favourite place of yours for authentic Milanese food?
My best places are our gourmet restaurant, the Morelli and Solferino.

As a working man in a fast paced Italian city - style is still important. Where do you prefer to shop?
My favourite brand is Hogan, a casual luxury brand. Their style perfectly fits with my lifestyle.

The VIU Terrace3

Working in the city's only Bleisure hotel, it's important for guests to feel like they're at home in your hotel. Where is your favourite place to brush shoulders with locals in Milan?

Ceresio 7, it’s close to the VIU Hotel. For both aperitivo or a relaxing afternoon in a private location, it’s ideal.
