Aside Italy’s flailing economy, when it comes to gastronomy, Italians are always on top of things.
Eataly, the Italian food-emporium chain has teamed up with the municipality of Bologna to build Eataly World, a theme park dedicated ENTIRELY to food. That’s definitely food for thought… A little like a Disneyland, only, for foodies. And who doesn’t like Italian food?
What better way to create jobs and spurr economic activity than to expand on it much praised cuisine!
The theme park, scheduled to open on November 1, 2015, is expected to attract around 10 million travellers a year. The park boasts more than 80,000 square metres of land, which Bologna’s Centro Agroalimentare has provided, which today includes a number of unused warehouses. The entire area will be transformed into a 54.9 million dollar epicurean paradise consisting of around 125 restaurants, grocery stores, food courts, and learning labs.
Eataly World will also be the headquarters of educational opportunities - the organisers plan to host seminars, offer culinary classes and provide certified training for all sectors of the food industry.
There will even be “live trees” where customers can pick their produce, besides spaces for kids.
