Italian jewellery marque Damiani created the Aro necklace that features in the latest film of the Twilight saga, 'Breaking Dawn: Part 2.' In the film, Aro, leader of the ruling vampire clan Volturi, gives the necklace to Bella Swan (played by Kristen Stewart) for her marriage to Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). To create the jewel, Damiani set a large round diamond into burnished brown gold.
In the photo above, Renesmee Carlie Cullen (played as a child by Mackenzie Foy) is wearing the Aro necklace made by Damiani.
The Twilight producers asked Damiani to create the necklace, using the writer's description in the book as inspiration. The result is a one-piece made in Italy by the maison's workshops. It includes references to Damiani's collection Metropolitan Dream.
The film, directed by Bill Condon, is based on the fourth novel in the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. It stars Kristen Steward, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.
On the same theme, this year is the 100th anniversary of the death of Bram Stoker, Irish novelist who wrote Dracula, the principal source for all subsequent vampire stories. The film launch is probably not connected to this anniversary, but an exhibition in Milan opening on 23 November 2012 at the Triennale certainly is. It presents the vampire legends in paintings, drawings, historic objects, stage costumes and videos. The exhibition is promoted in cooperation with Avis, an Italian association that is not related to car hire: it collects blood from donors!
The show in Milan is open 23 November 2012-24 March 2013, Triennale, Viale Alemagna 6, 20121 Milano. Opening times Tues-Sun 10.30 a.m.-8.30 p.m., open until 11 p.m. on Thurs. Closed Mon. €8. Info +39 02 7243 4208.
