After the debut of the "Colpo di Fulmine" collection in autumn 2010, Pomellato has officially launched the rest of its 2011 collection which I discovered on Via Borgonuovo 5 last week. A winding flight of stairs led me up to the showroom, where a beautiful counter with flowers and beverages lined one side of the wall, with comfy sofas and a large coffee table in the middle of the main room. I was led through a narrow door behind which the six new Pomellato collections were set up on individual stands, backed by the Tilda Swinton campaign images lit with spotlights.
Last season, I reviewed the Colpo di Fulmine which you can read more about here. New pieces from this year's Capri collection are a tribute to “La Dolce Vita” with materials like pink gold, coral, turquoise, tsavorite, onyx, brown diamonds, sapphire and chrysoprase. All the rings can be worn individually, and you can make a beautiful set with the pendants on an elegant chain. What’s fun is that you can wear several rings at the same time, combining the vibrant colours as you wish. If you are already familiar with the Capri collection, you will notice that these new pieces are slightly smaller. In fact, they're just the right size that exalts the beautiful colours of the jewellery.
Talking about small and cute jewellery pieces, Glory is Pomellato's new collection dedicated to those who love the cross design. Set in pink gold, brilliant-cut diamond, brown diamond, colourful sapphire, tsavorite and ruby give the classic cross a fresh new look. The Glory's miniature size is ever so precious. Besides the pendants, the bracelet adorned with five crosses is a must-have, especially for those who do not like cumbersome large charm bracelets.
The Victoria collection also offers new interesting pieces. For Pomellato, Victoria means "black," and there isn't a material more "Victorian" than jet. What really struck me was the sheer weightlessness of this organic material. Yet it is substantial and modern at the same time. The new earrings and pendant feature a new floral-inspired cut-out design. So light, so elegant – the Victoria collection can transition easily from day to evening.
Tango, Pomellato's most extravagant collection, expands its bold repertoire to include semi-pavé bangles, chain-design cuffs and rings, along with the signature chain necklaces, bracelets and large cocktail rings. The mysterious palette consists of smoky quartz, rose-cut brown diamond, burnished pink gold, white topaz – all majestically shown off on variations of Pomellato's handcrafted chain design.
Last but not least, the brand new Five O'clock collection is worth a mention for its whimsical teapot design. Silver and pink gold, the miniature teapots come in a beautiful fuschia and turquoise green jewellery box, with “Pomellato” written in Chinese on the bottom. This is a great collectible set for those who love fun jewellery designs.
Pomellato reveals new creativity and depth in its 2011 collection, while carrying on its tradition of excellent craftsmanship and design. The wider range of prices and materials will also appeal to customers who simply love everyday jewellery pieces.
