EA7 Emporio Armani will be the official supplier of technical clothing to the Azzura Sailing Team

Milan, 24 May 2010 - Giorgio Armani is delighted to announce that from May this year, starting with the Louis Vuitton Trophy races off the Sardinian island of La Maddalena, EA7 Emporio Armani will be the official supplier of technical clothing to the sailing crew of the 'Azzurra' team, and will also provide the official uniforms for the whole 'Azzurra' team.

This wardrobe developed from the combination of the elegance, style and advanced technical research synonymous with the EA7 active wear universe and the nautical expertise of the 'Azzurra' team. The chosen look incorporates a range of garments created in special vapour-permeable, waterproof and windproof fabrics benefiting from the very latest technological advances. The salopettes, Bermuda shorts and storm jackets in midnight blue/black all offer the finest detailing, with heat-welded seams and light-reflecting print logos, teamed with a practical fleece in 'quick dry' stretch fabric also in midnight blue/black, and comfortable sneakers in blue and white. The team will also wear polo shirts with EA7 Bermuda shorts at all formal occasions.

Giorgio Armani says, "I am very pleased with this new collaboration which demonstrates our determination to unite the philosophy of EA7, the cutting edge brand in the field of technical sports clothing of the highest quality, with the experience and competitive spirit of the all-Italian 'Azzurra' team."

'Azzurra' was the first Italian entry to launch a challenge for the America’s Cup, achieving third place in the semi-finals of the 1983 Louis Vuitton Cup. Nearly thirty years after this first sortie, 'Azzurra' has returned to sail under the colours of the Costa Smeralda Yacht Club, with an all-Italian crew led by skipper Francesco Bruni.

The team made its debut in November 2009 when it won the Louis Vuitton Trophy off Nice. In the next round of this important sporting competition, held off Auckland in New Zealand during March 2010, 'Azzurra' took third place. The next engagement for the 'Azzurra' team will be the Louis Vuitton Trophy races off La Maddalena, which take place between 22nd May and 6th June 2010, followed by participation in subsequent stages of the World Match Racing Tour, the most prestigious sailing sporting challenge in the world, which attracts the finest skippers from all over the globe.

A special EA7 capsule collection has been developed from this collaboration, taking its inspiration from the wardrobe created for the 'Azzurra' athletes and including items for both men and women: fleeces, waterproof jackets, polo shirts, Bermuda shorts and trousers. This line is complemented by appropriate accessories: belts and multi-pocket backpacks. It will be on sale from the beginning of June in selected Emporio Armani sales outlets throughout the world.
