"Game over" say the sneakers, with the pixelated space-invader bug on the tang. But in Hogan's spring/summer 2015 collection, it's never game over, because the primitive 1980s computer game has been brought into the 21st century with high-tech materials, such as laser-pierced leather and cuffs with silicone inserts on bomber jackets. The very first Hogan shoe, dating back to 1986, has been given a new lease of life in the reinterpretation called 'Traditional.'
Alongside the low-tech and the high-tech, there is the nonchalant all-American Ivy League style in the form of sports jerseys with massive logos and numbers in high relief, shorts, and high-top sneakers. The light-toned colours – mainly white and light grey – conjur up the relaxed and understated style of U.S. and British collleges as they were in the 1960s, with touches of Beatles style in the collar details, and splashes of colour provided by suntan or sweater. Apart from the neutrals, the highlights are blue, green and red, with suggestions of coordination, shoes with cuffs, shoes with sweater, shoes with bag.
This is Hogan, and so of course at the show, everyone is taking photos of the footwear, and the most formal are red and green croc moccasins. Hogan's dark suits are studded with multi-colour space invader bugs, in looks in which a tie provides an ironic touch of city slicker style. It's a collection in which the colour palette makes it easy and fun to pick and mix, constructing your look according to how you feel. Because in today's frenetic life, after 'Game over' it's time to start again on a new level. Play?
