Canali Fall / Winter 2012 - 2013 Featured

Fine Italian menswear inspired by the London boy

MILAN - Canali debuted its decadent new menswear line for the upcoming fall/winter seasons in Milan to great acclaim. After the show we could hear men in crowd murmuring their upcoming purchase choices from the runway. "Did you see how they fixed the pocket-square?" asked one stylish guest to another, "I loved that fan idea, I'm totally stealing it for tonight!" replied his friend.

Inspired by the class of a Londoner, this Canali collection was by far its most cosmopolitan yet with city smart looks. Playful as well, the new designs took their cues from liberal London-era moments from the Swinging Sixties to New Romantic.

Revamped versions of Prince of Wales check, houndstooth and cover twill made the fabrics more substantial, accentuating their qualities. We fancied the slim-fititng short cut jacket with thin lapels. The deconstructed Kei jacket is the brand's headliner this season giving plenty of space for other garments to be worn undernath: the new waistcoat. For bottoms, things stayed slim as well with cigarette-leg trousers and small waist pleats. The colour palette is decidely autumn with the usual suspects such as black, grey, blue and burgundy along with all their nuances - there are several lighter hues usually in a caramel or khaki-esque form.

The leisurely side of Canali was evoked through a hunting-like mood in the form of cashmere turtlenecks, goose down and field jackets as well as pea coats and nappa leather jackets with sheepskin lining. Travel luggage boasted drummer leather and exotice crocodile detailing. The collection even pays homage to The Beatles with a new calfskin 'Beatle boot'. Let it be gentleman.
