Louis Vuitton threw the most impressive show of the season at Paris Fashion Week with its dreamy carousel. Last season Marc Jacobs brought us a decadent black and gold art deco style collection for fall/winter. This time around the designer did a total 180 transforming the Louvre’s Cour Carré into a total white wonderland with a large scale carousel that had daintily dressed models sitting atop white horses.
The clothes and accessories were every bit as imaginative as the venue itself with light colours for spring/summer – lots of white as well as rose, mint and yellow. Romantic florals, feathered finishings on skirts and prim kneelength dresses had everyone applauding Jacobs’ masterful eye.
Accessories grabbed our attention as the LV monogram came on transparent, sheer white fabric and outlined on elegant umbrellas (definitely a must!) The shoes were metallic in colour and awfully futuristic in contrast to the style of the clothes – but we thought they suited well considering that the fifties was also the era of shows like the Jetsons and Star Trek – two future-based stories with a perspective from the fifties era.
A beautiful collection that like last season finished off with supermodel Kate Moss (Jacobs’ longtime muse) channeling Brigitte Bardot in a white babydoll dress – leading the way towards the sixties.
