With the cool weather slowly setting in, you turn to your wardrobe, yet you don’t know how to dress up to the latest winter fashion trends. Have no fear; we’ll give you our tips for the fashion trends for 2011 from Giorgio Armani tuxedos to Versace gowns.
Recalling the fall/winter runway shows back in February we noted several recurring themes and motifs, and as the season kicks in we’ll give you our suggestions to stay on top of the game. Our rule of thumb is: dress for the occasion.
At work it is important to maintain a professional dress code, with modest hemlines, discreet cuts and subtle elegance. For ladies we recommend a look at Alessandro dell’Acqua’s designs for Brioni. He proposes delicate fabrics in knee length skirts and comfortable trousers; tops are feminine and can easily be paired with cashmere, fur or leather outerwear. The collection’s minimal design will certainly surely get any lady noted. In addition, Brioni is also a great clothing companion for drinks after a long workday. Their accessories are not to be missed! Our pick for a must-have item would be Chanel glasses frames. This season Karl Lagerfeld brings us a new look for eyewear.
Brioni is a household name for any gentleman. However we would like to encourage you to take a look at Hugo Boss’ collection. Boss Black dares to add new colours and cuts to their collection, breaking away elegantly from the standard office tones adding blues and browns. With regard to all those much-needed bags and cases for all your gadgets, cufflinks and ties, it's a draw between Dunhill and Ermenegildo Zegna – we’ll leave this one up to you.
Whether relaxing at home, sailing or hitting the slopes, you need not compensate style with comfort, and to achieve this, here are our tips: For men we suggest Boss Black casual wear with warm sweaters and trousers. As for accessories, our choice is Tod’s, famous for their legendary ‘Gommini’ shoes, even though they also make impressive pieces of luggage.
For ladies we have a secret: Agnona cashmere! Check our selection of Agnona’s knitwear and you will find yourself welcoming the winter season. Their collection features impeccable sweaters, coats and jackets perfect to keep you warm against the elements. Though you can also pair this with a ski cap from Chanel.
And for the many parties of the holiday season, well, in this case it is a matter of personal choice though we did see a lot of velvet. Giorgio Armani tuxedos are legendary but we cannot exclude the impeccable suits from Ermenegildo Zegna synonymous with excellence and sophistication, where finest fabrics and masterly tailoring bring forth masterpieces. If it's Italian tailoring you’re after, you can follow James Bond and stick to Brioni.
As for women, well, there is an ample choice available, but for more conservative ladies we recommend Giorgio Armani, always utterly sophisticated. For more daring ladies who want to claim their place in the spotlight we suggest Vivienne Westwood dresses which will add some sparkle to any holiday party. Dress like a goddess with Versace gowns, in bold colours and soft fabrics and of course feathers. They have truly dazzled us ever since we saw them on the runways.
As far as outerwear goes – we have but one name, Burberry. The British brand is an institution in this field and with Christopher Bailey’s design guidance it tops our chart. Our favourite is the Burberry pea coat, classic and masculine. Though we saw several coats and jackets what we shall never forget from their fashion show was the final scene with the models wearing Burberry raincoats under the rain. Don't forget, Burberry's accessories are a must, regardless the season.
As those warm days gradually give way to the cool of autumn and the cold of winter, don’t despair. Just turn to your wardrobe and remember our tips. If that does not work, turn to our Favourites for some inspiration and take a look at our Store Locator for the nearest boutiques and shop away!
