Fratelli Rossetti’s Milan showroom answered the prayers of many a female craving their own version of the masculine-style brogue. Twin leather tassels sat atop fine leather laceups dyed in subtle hues like ivy, cord and navy. As Alice in Wonderland’s Queen of Hearts said “off with her head!” the brand follows suit with the mantra “off with her heels.” Our feet can take a break next season from the skinny uncomfortable heels with these kicks that keep us lovely, but comfy like the boys.
Highlights from the new collection include the Hobo, labeled a lace-up without laces slipper style with giant tassels and the Chimera which was designed using materials from the brand’s archive with innovative new techniques and vibrant colours.
Classic iconic styles like the handmade Brera moccasin(named after the highbrow Milanese neighbourhood) reappear next spring/summer in dynamic new colour variations and materials.
We caught up with Fratelli Rossetti’s partner designer George Esquivel, a name to watch out for. The California-based designer was just tapped by the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) to be one of a select few American designers to showcase their collections in Paris next week. It’s always a pleasure to see what Fratelli Rossetti comes out with each season and alongside that is always an artistic collaboration to complement the collection. This time they partnered up with photographers Giovanni Gastel and Guido Taroni to create photographs of master craftsmen at work from those who use traditional practices to those using innovative new techniques.
