The Ballantyne spring summer 2012 men's collection, as presented during the Milan Fashion Week. The marque has long been famous for its high-quality cashmere, and this year, the brand returns to traditional tailoring values and Italian-Scottish knitwear craftsmanship. The highlight is on detail, quality control, skilled design, and careful finish.
The brand has launched five specialist "labels" that provides thematic guidance to a man's wardrobe. Ballantyne Black Label is a capsule collection with thirty Ballantyne pieces, expressing the brand's vision of the spring-summer 2012 collection. Inspirations for Black Label are African modern art, traditional Scottish clan clothing, and Japanese textiles. Modern African embroidery appears in the knitwear, while the traditional Ballantyne Diamond is dyed in special colours using specialist techniques, such as Tie & Dye, or Shibori. The cuts and geometry of trousers, shorts and jackets recalls the 1920s, period in which the brand appeared, and by Scottish golf attire of the same period.
Ballantyne White Label is a knitwear and prêt-à-porter collection based on two themes, Seaside and Nile Valley. The former features bright maritime colours, red, yellow, light blue, denim and pearl grey, used in knitwear, ultra-light cashmere with Diamond and Argyle patterns, knitwear coats, and fisherman-style striped jumpers. Quality yarns, cotton crepe and technical fabrics are combined in sporty, smart jackets. The Nile Valley look is based on colours including hemp, sand, gold, stone and earth, with white, pink, lilac and purple highlights. Materials are mixed linens, silk and cashmere, with unusual techniques such as sandblasting and special washing. Stretch linens appear in colonial-style jackets and cargo trousers.
Ballantyne Travel is a new collection comnprising must-have items for international jet-setters, made in ultra-light cashmere or ultra-light stretch nylon. Colours are predominantly neutral: white, beige, heather grey and blue. Cashmere is blended with nylon and very light jersey to create a new luxury jogging style. Keynotes are comfort, lightness and versatility.
Ballantyne Heritage looks back to the marque's tradition and culture, in products that reflect its Scottish origins. Ballantyne 1921 is a collection inspired by the world of golf, with Diamond-motif garments and handmade inlays inspired by period golf images running back to 1921.
