It is the opening night of the European flagship of Juicy Couture – palm trees and sandy beach wrap the pavement as mustachioed waiters serve jelly and macaroons to the transatlantic glitterati - Simon and Yasmin le Bon, Jade Jagger, Lily Cole and Lee Lezark - inside.
Decorated with its founders’ signature rock baroque style, the destination has all the Juicy hallmarks of Hollywood fantasy meshed with Californian freedom: red riding rosettes, peacocks and heavily bejeweled taxidermy fleck the Grade I listed Regency walls.
Bruton Street in London is the most important fashion address off Bond Street, and Juicy co-founder Gela Nash Taylor had eyed the premises since settling their London offices in the former headquarters of couturier to The Queen, Norman Hartnell, next door.
“Juicy is like no other luxury label in the world,” the elfin fashionista reveals to Luxos. “It’s everyday glamour - luxury for the masses based on unique LA style.” Being the founder of one of the most successful luxury retail labels in the world, and wife to John Taylor of Duran Duran, Nash-Taylor knows a thing or two about jetset style.
She cites Hong Kong – where the flagship Asia store in the IFC mall (boasting shoe and accessory salon, intimates corner, expanded kids’ zone as well as signature track wall and charm bar) was relaunched ripe in time for Christmas - among her favourite destinations in the world. “It’s like a 24 hour party people city. I have never been to a place where partying and business is entwined more in the same sentence, all of the time!” Bird by Juicy Couture, which Taylor describes as ‘darker and more contemporary, edgier and more relevant’ is sold exclusively in store.
However should you, like Gela Nash-Taylor, be continent-hopping this season, you can find Juicy in China, Malaysia, Japan and Dubai, in addition to the new store opening in Paris’s Gallery Lafayette.
