The doctor's bag is back, and for men

Various takes on the classic Gladstone bag, a.k.a. doctor's bag, were seen on the runways for fall/winter 2012-2013 women's collections, but it is also making a new appearance in men's collections. Not just in the classic brown leather of its origins, but in androgynous, decorative pieces that require a fair amount of self-confidence. The Brioni version for the winter 2012 season (shown above) is in crocodile, with alcantara lining, and hardware in palladium metal finish.

The classic doctor's bag has a closure at the top, and usually two main compartments. The triangular shape makes it fairly roomy, ideal as a weekend bag. Several brands produce their own versions of the pattern, such as the selection shown below, all from the fall/winter 2012/2013 collections:

Canali replaces the top closure with a zip:

Louis Vuitton makes this minimalist version, again with a top zip fastener. They call it the 'sac weekend':
