German fashion designer Jil Sander will be returning to the company that bears her name nearly eight years after resigning, as Creative Director of the Jil Sander Group. This takes effect from the 28th of February 2012.
"I am very happy and excited to be back. It feels like coming home after a brief journey. The Jil Sander brand is ingrained in my very being, paradigms change and evolve from season to season, but the heart of a brand doesn't alter. It will be a great challenge and a greater joy to design Jil Sanders contemporary identity," 68-year-old Sander said, as reported in the company's press release.
Head of the Jil Sander Group Alessandro Cremonesi also welcomed Sander's return to the fold. "It is a moving moment to welcome Jil Sander back, who created this unique fashion house, and then shaped its rise into a highly estimated global brand," he said. Sander founded the fashion house in 1968. Prada bought a 75-percent stake in 1999. She initially stayed on as creative director but resigned a little later owing to differences with Prada chief executive Patrizio Bertelli.
