Hublot has given one of the most important objects on the football pitch a design overhaul for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It’s none other than the referee board, used by the fourth official on the ground to show the extra time periods and player’s substitution.
From a flat and square design, the Swiss luxury watchmaker has redesigned the board to incorporate the brand’s distinctive watch design. The new optimised design has preserved the technical specifications of the old board but boasts a more ergonomic grip and polished aesthetics to make it not only practical but also more attractive to look at. Even the weight was controlled to avoid unnecessary sustained effort.
Hublot is also the official timekeeper of 2014 FIFA World Cup, and first used the referee’s board during the first match of the football competition on 12 June 2014 in Sao Paolo: Brazil versus Croatia in front of thousands of spectators in the stadium and millions of fans in front of their TV’s.
