Salone del Mobile Milan, the highlights

MILAN - Known throughout the world by design sauvants and interior aficionados, the Salone del Mobile celebrates its 51st anniversary this year. Althought it is officially held on the city's outskirts at the Rho Fiera exhibtion space, there are plenty of 'Fuorisalone' events taking place right in the heart of the city. From DJ sets and champagne soirees in designer boutiques to pop shops and department stores being taken over by artists, there's something for everyone looking to see something out of the ordinary. Here are some of our Salone highlights to check out if you're in town.

EuroCucina hosts a ground-breaking project set up between 
social community – San Patrignano - and international
designers and architects.

 MARNI - L'arte del Ritratto


With H&M in the rearview, Marni delves into its latest pet project: chair design.
They are selling 100 chairs designed by ex-prisoners in Colombia in their boutique.
All proceeds go to charity

Department store La Rinascente gives free reign to experimental designers, allowing
them to 'hack' its premises with creative interventions over a 100 hour period.
Tip: look out for food design firm Honey & Bunny's one-off edible sculpture.

Be amazed as Lernet & Sander put Brioni on film; Alfredo Haberli lights a fire under
the Barbie; Jouin Manku craft an atelier on wheels; David Rockwell gets busy with

Curated by Gisella Borioli with Giulio Cappellini, Superstudio will play host to some
40 exhibitions. See some of the bigger furniture brands presenting outside of the fair itself,
while 2,000 square-metres of basement space is devoted to young international talents.

A new range of crystal wine glasses will be launched and available to test out with
daily wine-tasting sessions at the specially designed bar area. Baccarat will also present
new work from Philippe Starck and tableware by Patricia Urquiola.
