The Lotus Elise first appeared in 1996 as a light, fast, 2-seat mid-engine sports car, in line with the Lotus approach of performance through light weight. It produced supercar performance with city car economy.
On the occasion of the 2010 Paris Motor Show, Lotus unveiled a massive programme of new and updated models, with other ancillary features such as a line of garments, a new website, and a magazine. In particular, the Lotus Elise MY2011 (model year) introduces a number of changes, with the Elise SC featuring a 1.8 litre supercharged engine that produces a torque of 217 Nm at 8000 rpm, for an acceleration 0-100 km/h of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 233 km/h. Weight is just 870 kilos.
The design has been considerably reviewed and improved, with a new front clamshell, rear bumper and engine cover, and integrated headlights with LED day running lights and LED direction indicators. These aerodynamic improvements have reduced the coefficient of drag by 4%. Above all, it looks great, as can be seen from the latest photos.
