27 September 2010

The Whatever floats your boat challenge is inviting entries for totally recyclable materials, which will have to take to the sea across Festival Marina, Dubai Festival City, on 26 November 2010. It is organized by a team that includes the InterContinental Hotel at Dubai Festival City. All registration fees will be donated to the Emirates Wildlife Society in association with the World Wide Fund for Nature (EWS-WWF).

Entries can be "schools" or "corporate," and they will be judged on Line Honors, the Best Dressed team, and the Most Imaginative boat design. The craft has to be built from previously used and recycled materials, and can be a maximum of 2.8 metres wide. Parts from real boats (rudders, paddles etc.) are not allowed, and likewise, no nails, tacks, staples, glue or tape. String and twine are fine. Plastic bottles are great, while wood cannot be the main source of buoyancy. The four member team have to sail in the craft, and carry it as well for a 400 metre parade on land.
