Bulgari to Help Fund Renovation of Rome’s Spanish Steps

Bulgari to help restore one of Rome's heritage monuments

by 04 April 2014

Rome’s Spanish Steps are getting a makeover thanks to luxury jeweller Bulgari, who is putting 1.5 million euro towards its renovation.

The two-year refurbishment is scheduled to begin in 2015 and will be “a special gift from Bulgari to its city” to mark the jeweller’s 130th anniversary.

The Italian government has called on the private sector to help restore and maintain heritage monuments, after a series of wall collapses at Pompeii. Other luxury brands are also making financial contributions to UNESCO monuments, including shoemaker Tod’s, which is financing works at the Colosseum, and fashion house Fendi, which is expected to refurbish the Trevi Fountain.
