The world-famous concerts and symphonic masterworks festival, organized by the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation, is held during March and April 2011, hosted at the Zara Hadid Pavilion at the Emirates Palace. It reflects Abu Dhabi's desire to become a centre for international culture. The theme of the festival is "Harmony for Humanity", and it will feature a host of international classical music artistes, as well as some of the Arab world's most exciting performers, including Rumi-inspired Rachid Koraichi, Jordanian vocalist Madaci Nahhas, Lebanese singer Soumaya Baalbaki, and virtuoso cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras. The Zaha Hadid Pavilion, designed by Pritzker Prize-winner Iraqi-born architect Hadid, will be on the Emirates Palace Lawns, and it will be open from 22 March 2011 to 29 March 2011.
Festival events begin on 19 March, with "Mozart Masterpieces" performed by the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, Belgium's most prestigious classical ensemble. The programme includes Mozart's Concerto for Two Pianos in E flat major, K 365, and Symphony 29 in A major, K 201. On 20 March, Lucia di Lammermoor broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera, New York, in HD. On 21 March, Macbeth, from Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. On successive days, there is a glittering array of performances by musicians including Abdel Rahman El Bacha, Al Jarreau, Dmitri Gudanov, Ekaterina Siurina, The Russian National Orchestra, Sylvie Guillem, Yefim Bronfman and many more. The programme runs right through to 4 April, with an Opera Gala titled Dmitri and Friends, with the world's greatest opera stars.
