HONG KONG, 9 June 2010 – On 1 July, The Mandarin Spa launches its innovative bamboo ritual treatment combines bamboo-stick massage with the healing powers of essential oils. The 90-minute treatment is priced at HK$1,450 and uses bamboo rods of various sizes to knead and relax tense muscles. Ideal to counter the effects of stress, tension and lack of rest, the ritual blends bamboo’s beneficial effects with the therapeutic techniques of deep-tissue Swedish massage for lymphatic drainage and a truly holistic approach. The oils used are Mandarin Oriental Signature Spa Therapy oils selected following each guest’s consultation with a therapist prior to treatment.
“The Mandarin Spa will be the first spa in Hong Kong to offer this bamboo ritual,” says Spa Director Lynsey Hughes. “Its use of both essential oils and bamboo sticks makes it a truly innovative massage technique that leaves guests feeling both relaxed and also energised.”
The Spa’s bamboo ritual creates a healing journey of the senses guided by the combination of essential oils, bamboo flute music, bamboo tea and the healing touch of the therapist. The treatment begins with the consultation which includes a questionnaire to determine the most advantageous essential oil, followed by massage wherein the therapist alternates between use of the bamboo sticks and bare hands to ease tensions and relax tight muscles. The treatment ends with a healing cup of bamboo tea taken in The Mandarin Spa’s relaxation room.
