Alimentum is a Cambridge restaurant that has attracted gourmets from London, willing to face the trials of England's highways and railways so that they can sample his very original cuisine.
For three weeks, things will be made easier for all Londoners (and visitors) who enjoy good, creative food. Mark Poynton will be showcasing his style at the Winter Garden restaurant, part of the Landmark London hotel, every Tuesday to Saturday evening, from 20 November to 8 December 2012. The restaurant will be featuring Mark's menus, with an à la carte menu including Alimentum's signature dishes in a choice of four starters, mains and desserts. This three-course menu is priced at £45.
The six-course tasing menu is a fascinating culinary tour, through innovative creations whose names are deceptively simple: carrot, goats' curd, tarragon; sprout leaves, potato, earl grey; baked yoghurt, cherry, pistachio. The six-course menu is priced £65.
But the real experience is the ten-course blind tasting menu, in which Mark leads you through a tantalizing sequence of seasonal dishes.
The Landmark London is also offering a package specifically to showcase Mark's period at the hotel. The £390 package for two includes the Alimentum six-course menu, one night's stay in one of the most luxurious guest rooms, and a traditional English breakfast.
Mark Poynton's career history is fascinating. He reached the catering industry by chance, when he got a job as a part-time waiter when he was 15. In 1997 he started work as a chef at a hotel in Chester. He developed his experience at Michelin-starred restaurants. He decided to launch his own restaurant, Alimentum in Cambridge, in April 2008. It won three AA rosettes after just a year.
