Celebrating Christmas and New Year in Dubai

Planning an escape to the sunshine this festive season?

by 01 December 2014

If you fancy spending the festive season in the sun then Dubai is an excellent choice. The climate at this time of year is warm and dry with average temperatures varying between a high of 26 degrees celsius and a low of 16 degrees celsius.

The UAE is a Muslim country, but that doesn't mean that Christmas is not celebrated. For example in Dubai you can treat yourself to a luxury Christmas at one of the top hotels in city.

At the Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach you can indulge yourself festive food and fun. On Christmas Eve the grand buffet at A.O.C. French Brasserie features European festive delicacies, exquisite seafood dishes and a sushi corner whilst the Plantation lounge offers a selection of more than 30 different types of cheeses, including raclette and fondue paired with a fine assortment of whites and reds accompanied by live entertainment.

On December 25 and 26, the A.O.C. French Brasserie hosts a sumptuous brunch with traditional favourites and multiple carving stations plus a visit from Santa in the Kid's Zone. The Plantation Lounge takes guests on a gastronomic trip on Christmas Day through a four-course dinner, including scallop carpaccio with Sevruga caviar, capon stuffed ravioli with winter truffle, duck breast with chestnut purée and panettone chocolate dome. For those who would like to spend Christmas night by the pool, the hotel’s Infini Lounge hosts a barbecue night from 8pm until late.

New Year

Dubai never does things by halves, and New Year's Eve is no exception. Last year this opulent city showed the world how to celebrate New Year with a record-breaking display of 476,651 firework shells fired in just six minutes, at a rate of 80,000 shells per minute. That's a mind-blowing 1,332 fireworks per second.

If you want to see the world's largest fireworks in style this year then the place to be is one of the city's top hotels.

The Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach lies in the heart of the JBR, and their Infini Pool Lounge is the perfect place to view the city's breathtaking fireworks. Guests can enjoy a lavish buffet in this spectacular setting with live DJ sets and belly dancing performances.

The hotel also offers a feast of dining options to get you in the party mood. The A.O.C French Brasserie menu includes foie gras, terrines, pâté, oysters, sushi, dim sum, a carving station and more.
