Asmalımescit is often described as one of the hippest nightlife districts in Istanbul. Yet the area is much more than that, with noteworthy restaurants and shops popping up in and around it. And recently the neighbourhood welcomed a new addition. Founded with the ambition of conserving Turkey’s cultural heritage, Heritia represents the combination of two adjacent stores, located in a beautiful Neoclassical building right across from the grand Pera Palace Hotel, Jumeirah on MeÅŸrutiyet Caddesi.
One of the stores displays traditional hand-crafted objects, mother-of-pearl engravings, and silver craftsmanship. In this section, you’ll find gift-worthy mother-of-pearl-engraved coffee tables, cabinets, prayer beads, and jewellery boxes; gold, silver, and silk-embroidered hand-made tablecloths, panels, and home décor objects. The other store is where the most traditional culinary delicacies are presented, including the world-famous Turkish delight, marzipan, and Turkish hard-candy known as akide ÅŸekeri. The owner Zeynep Küçük Willems especially insists that all food items on sale are organic and free of glucose, essences, and food colouring. Seasonal flavours are added continuously, and the specialities on sale include the classic pistachio, orange and rose, as well as the not-so-usual pumpkin and walnuts!
The brand’s logo is the Seljuk symbol for the tree of life, and this motif is widely used in various objects sold in the store. "We took this symbol that has a place in almost every ancient culture and religion because we intend to keep our heritage alive forever," Küçük Willems explains. Hailing from a family of craftswomen, the store's elegant owner is firm in her belief that mastery in the traditional arts will survive as long as we keep supporting the artisans.
Keep in mind that Heritia can supply custom-made products in small as well as large quantities. So if you have something special in mind for a friend’s birthday or an important corporate event, make sure you get in touch with the Heritia team.
