Milan’s galleries cover just about every medium this season, beginning with ‘Egypt’ at Mudec. It presents the story of the Egyptian civilisation through the life of Pharaoh Amenhotep II. Meanwhile at Hangar Bicocca, the ‘environments’ by mid-20th-century Italian artist Lucio Fontana have been reconstructed. The exhibition plays with your perception of space in a bewildering way. At Castello Sforzesco, the Museum of Decorative Arts has reopened, presenting a social history of Italy through 1,300 pieces from the Middle Ages to the present.

Gliding across one of Milan’s many ice skating rinks is surely one of the best ways to enjoy breath-taking views of the city and take a break from the chaos of Christmas shopping. The biggest is located at Piazza Gae Aulenti, underneath the towering Unicredit building. There are other rinks in Giardini Pubblici and Piazza Città di Lombardia.

Milan’s food scene comes alive from harvest time right through until after the Christmas lights have dimmed. East Market Milano is one the city's best loved locations to stroll around on a crisp winter’s day, whether you’re in need of crafts products or fine wines. You can also try L’Artigiano in Fiera, which is a huge Christmas Market held in early December.
