Madrid is a fantastic city for shopping and it seems the Spanish have a knack for creating an exciting consumer experience. We’ve compiled a list of our favourite four but you’ll discover lots more as you walk around the different barrios of this vibrant metropolis.

DO Design

Seriously hip with a beautifully curated edit of furniture, clothing, stationery, accessories, art and indeed any item that owner, Lucía Ruiz-Rivas, takes a shine to. The store, located in the Chueca neighborhood, has been mostly designed by Lucía with some help from friends and the result is 200 square meters of gorgeous, light-filled, Scandi-style space. Like shifting sands, the collections change according to Lucía’s latest collaboration. There’s also a café where you take a break and enjoy the ambience in this unique store.

Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada

Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, a wild child from the Spanish Movida movement, has been designing since 1981. Child of an architect and an aristocrat, Ágatha was never going to just blend in. Her brand offers menswear, womenswear, children’s fashion, accessories, cosmetics, home accessories and more, all in her distinct, colorful and sometimes whacky aesthetic, of which Miley Cyrus, among others, is a fan, and creatively displayed in her Calle de Serrano store in the beautiful Salamanca district. This is a quintessential Madrid shopping experience and we love it.

AMEN Concept Store

The former owners of critically acclaimed concept store Enfant Terrible have opened this very funky store in the uber-cool Masalaña district. Housed in a former print shop, owner and founder Rocío Mendivil wanted to create a clean, spacious and personal shopping experience, a complete antithesis to crowded high street shopping. You’ll find alternative local and international designers represented here with an eclectic collection of goods such as Japanese Manga dolls, tea from Berlin and even piggy banks shaped like Jeff Koon’s balloon dogs! There is a space for music and a gallery displaying local artists’ work and with plans for secret concerts and pop up candlelit dining, we recommend you put this on your Madrid shopping list.

Pinkoco

It is nigh-on impossible to resist the attractions of this deliciously decorated store in the Cheuca district. Italian owner Piero Furia designed the store with help from Luis Puerta, and the concept is beauty for all the senses. Famous for his bags, we love his limited edition camo canvas shoulder bags, designed and made by Piero at his atelier. You’ll also find candles, soaps, and body oil inspired by the perfume of the citrus trees from his hometown, Verona. Piero has also opened a beautiful bar on nearby Calle Santo Tomé if you’re not quite ready to leave the ambience of this special store behind.
