Between May 29 and June 2, Chef Aharoni is answering London’s growing hunger for modern Israeli cuisine. During the planned five-day residency, the dubbed ‘new star of Israeli cuisine’ will steer the evening kitchen at Carousel and showcase a mix of his signature dishes alongside new creations, all of which draw upon his soulful cooking style that takes inspiration from the city’s melting pot of cultures and his own Mediterranean heritage. Aharoni, is the first chef from Tel Aviv to collaborate with the Marylebone institution.
Back in Tel Aviv, ALENA is Chef Aharoni’s newly branded Mediterranean restaurant, nestled between the historic Bauhaus buildings of Tel Aviv’s award-winning luxury boutique hotel The Norman. He takes inspiration from the city’s melting pot of cultures to showcase dishes that brim with the finest of local ingredients and regional flavours. The residency’s cocktail offering has been tailor-made by the talented team at the The Library Bar at The Norman, too – a Tel Aviv bar destination in its own right. The expert mixologists have created a cocktail menu which will available at Carousel, including ‘The Market Martini, a gin based cocktail sweetened with pomegranate star anise syrup, sharpened with fresh lime juice and finished with a drop of rose oil’, giving the cocktail a Middle Eastern edge with a nod to Tel Aviv’s renowned Carmel Market. The Carousel evenings will also feature stand out Israeli wines, paired by The Norman’s sommelière, responsible for ALENA and The Norman wine list winning the 2017 and 2018 awards for Best Wine List in Israel.
The residency collaboration also includes Hampstead’s neighbourhood bakery Karma Bread, founded by Tami Isaacs Pearce. The two have been working closely together across London and Tel Aviv in recent months, developing unique handcrafted breads that will exclusively accompany the menu at Carousel. These are set to include a brilliant iteration of Aharoni’s legendary bread pudding, to be adorned generously with Crème Anglaise. Dishes on the wish list include: Chef Aharoni's take on ‘Arais’, Middle Eastern grilled pita pockets stuffed with lamb and served with fresh mint; ‘Persian Lemon Chicken’, a dish inspired by classic Iranian dishes with added Mediterranean touches; and the ‘Carmel Market Plate’ that will bring the colours of Tel Aviv’s iconic food market to London with freshly chopped vegetables drizzled in zesty Mediterranean dressing, and a selection of his popular and ever-changing mezzes and dips.
Tickets will be sold at £39.50pp, including 4 dishes with an optional additional dish. Doors will open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.
