Portuguese people take great pride in the Age of Discoveries. Prince Henry the Navigator was one of the greatest explorers and considered the main initiator of the Age of Discoveries. Originally built in 1940, Padrão dos Descobrimentos was dedicated Prince Henry, five hundred years after his death. Overlooking Lisbon, this 52-metre tall monument welcomes tourists to enjoy the scenic views of the Tagus River and the city across the horizon. Tickets can be easily purchased at the entrance and the top of the monument is accessible by elevator.
