The latest hotspots on the city’s culinary landscape

Istanbul is a dynamic city that is teeming with culinary inspiration. Here are some of our favourite new eateries in this Turkish metropolis.

St-Regis-Istanbul---March-2015-123St. Regis, Istanbul

Celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck’s acclaimed Spago restaurant made its Istanbul debut in March 2015. Located inside the St. Regis Istanbul in the hip Nişantaşı neighbourhood, the restaurant is divided into lounge and fine-dining sections. The eclectic menu with American, Asian and Italian influences combines seasonal ingredients with modern touches. We recommend ending your meal with their celebrated soufflé. Better still, stick around to sample their cocktails as you groove to the DJ performance in the bar-lounge section. www.wolfgangpuck.com

The Istanbul branch of London-based restaurant chain Sofra London Restaurant & Bar opened in May 2015. Owned by Turkish-British chef and restaurateur Hüseyin Özer, Sofra London proudly claims the title of the first Turkish restaurant to be featured in the Michelin Guide. In addition to great fare, the spacious Karaköy location also has an extensive collection of Turkish and international wines. www.sofralondon.com

This new restaurant by the Soho House group is located in the courtyard of the 19th-century Palazzo Corpi Building, which was once the location of the American Consulate. Cecconi’s serves classic Northern Italian fare like starters (or ‘ciccheti’), handmade pasta, seafood and, of course, pizza. Whether you opt for the stylish indoors or the olive tree-lined garden is completely up to you. www.cecconisistanbul.com

Pizza East

Steps away from the Dolmabahçe Palace in the ritzy Akaretler neighbourhood, the Soho House group’s Pizza East serves antipasti as well as pizzas and main courses from its wood-fired oven. The restaurant is an ideal al fresco dining spot when the weather permits, while the wood-and-steel accented interiors are also home to a charcuterie section and a bar stocked with mostly Turkish wines. www.pizzaeast.com

Taking its name from the old Turkic word for a meadow among trees, Alancha is indeed a culinary mirage that sprung up in the small coastal town of Alaçatı and jumped up into Nişantaşı. With two dining rooms on two floors, Alancha offers serious gourmands a tasting menu-only restaurant upstairs and to others, a more laid-back restaurant-bar on the ground floor. Along with their seasonal menu of surprising fusion tastes, they also serve incredible cocktails prepared by using serious lab equipment. www.en.alancha.com
