Kavaklidere’s delicious wines rest in their modern cellars at the Kav Butik on Nisantasi’s quiet Atiye Street. The first Kav Butik opened in Ankara in the late 1980s, but the history of the Kavaklidere brand goes back to the early days of the newly-founded Turkish Republic.
Set up as an entrepreneurial project in the fast-growing capital of Ankara by a visionary Turkish couple, Kavaklidere Winery went through many stormy years of inheritance issues before finally establishing its status as the largest producer of “Anatolian wines.” With its 550 hectares of vineyards in five different regions of the country, three Château-style production facilities, 19.5 million litres of annual storage capacity and 43 different wines, Kavaklidere is a true household brand with international accolades.
Managed by Cenk Coteli, the Kav Butik in Nisantasi serves as a showroom for all the Kavaklidere’s wines and more: local and imported wine brands, contemporary accessories, books, magazines, tastings and professional training sessions are all a part of the Kav Butik experience for those who can't resist a full immersion in wine culture.
Stop by this chic store if you’d like to try their flavourful, full-bodied, floral 2006 vintage Côtes d’Avanos Sauvignon Blanc. If you are looking for something spicier, with black fruits, olives and liquorish aromas, then ask for a glass of their Pendore Syrah 2008, which won the silver medal at Les Citadelles du Vin. For a guided tasting menu of Turkish wines, call Kav Butik.
