What's on in Florence this autumn Featured

Wine tasting, outdoor concerts and fairs for every interest, Florence is a cultural hotspot this autumn

Florence's cooler temperatures, much better for al fresco eating and drinking, and busy open-air arts and concert season make it one of Italy’s most vibrant autumn destinations, we've picked the best art, cultural and gastronomic events in the Tuscan capital:

Florence Antiques Fair

Florence’s world famous antique markets are a spectacle each weekend in the city’s piazzas, but once a year the world’s antique dealers, owners and collectors come together to celebrate the city’s relationship with vintage wears. The Biennale internazionale di Antiquariato di Firenze features everything from furniture and furnishings, to watches and artefacts, this year is also celebrating the leading merchants of books and prints with many artefacts being flown from across the world for display at Palazzo Corsini. 26 September- 4th October www.biaf.it

Florence Biennale

Now in its 20th year, Florence’s contemporary art fair has been gaining momentum since its inception, in-part because of its ability to propel new artists to success.. This year the Biennale celebrates ‘150 years of Florence, capital of Italy’ with more emerging artists than ever. The exhibition is open to the public who can peruse the pieces, chat to artists and designers and bid on select articles. Expect Italian style and glamour aplenty as well as lectures, workshops and awards over the week. Fortezza da Basso, 17 - 25 October www.florencebiennale.org

Italian wine is good year-round, but come harvest time the scent of grapes is in the air in the wine regions. Take a day-trip out of Florence and venture into the hills to experience the wine tastings and festivals. You’ll also find routes and trails to hike or bike between the vineyards and take in the sprawling views.
