Located on the bustling Santa Maria Novella square, behind a modest townhouse façade is the exceptional retreat that is J.K Place Firenze. More like a sophisticated home than a hotel, the interiors are elegant with working fireplaces, antiques and collectables that seem to have been gathered over the generations. Once inside in the tranquil glass-covered courtyard there is little sense of the city outside.
An eminently warm blend of modern and traditional and the fact that there are only twenty rooms makes the house-guest illusion entirely plausible. The Chinese prints, brass-framed photographs, neo-classical furniture and lamps from the 1950s and 1960s fit perfectly with the sleek masculine muted décor. Intimate rooms feature romantic four poster beds, views on the J.K. private gallery, bathrooms with walk-in showers sitting happily alongside up to the minute technology.
In the evening, dine at JK Lounge for the same refined atmosphere with excellent food and retire to the pop-art styled, Pink Room for an after-dinner digestif. JK Lounge serves light lunches, afternoon tea and dinner, with a strongly seasonal menu of Tuscan specialities, and brunch on Sundays. Styled by Michele Bonan, the room’s decor combines classic 1950s seduction with ironic 1970s references.
The old courtyard is now glass-roofed, serves as the breakfast venue, and the rooftop terrace boasts a lounge bed from which to comfortably soak in the view. JK Lounge, with its teak terrace opening onto the piazza, is a see-and-be-seen setting for an aperitivo.
