The contemporary Gallery Hotel Art is a 4 star design hotel in Florence dreamed up by Michele Bönan, a distinguished Florentine architect, and a favourite local meeting place amongst those in the know in the heart of Florence. Set in a quiet courtyard near the Arno and Ponte Vecchio and close to Palazzo Strozzi the hotel benefits from both location and art inspired stylish interiors.
Behind the contemporary concrete exterior lies a minimalist sleek modern boutique hotel. Michele Bonan has undoubtedly delivered on the brief to blend style, design and detail. Art, culture, and hotel function coexist in public areas which double as exhibition space for revolving art exhibits. Colours are soothing and modern from white to brown and light grey, with the occasional hints of turquoise. The overriding impression of the Gallery Hotel Art is one of exceptional quality from the furniture to the fittings.
The 74 pin-striped guest rooms and nine suites are hung with moody black-and-white studies of Florentine monuments and designed in a contemporary style with a masculine edge. Dark wooden floors, hand stitched pigskin bedheads and draw-pulls, fine linen, cashmere and elegant mood lighting complete the look. The suites on the upper floors of the hotel have lovely terraces complete with day beds and spectacular views across the city.
The buzzy and minimalist Asian-inspired hotel bar and restaurant are popular hang outs with locals as well as hotel guests. Fusion by name and by nature, serving unique Italian/Japanese cuisine, best illustrated by the test tubes of flavoured oils and soy sauce on each table. For the best cocktails in town, head up to the bar or terrace; you can sometimes catch live jazz in the evenings. Barman Karim creates exotic cocktails, from ‘Green Hornet’ to the Mar"tea"ni. The library is a more relaxing place to sit back in a velvet sofa with a well chosen book from the eclectic selecion and a drink to hand. A fantastic breakfast spread is also served here in the mornings.
