As much a Tuscan villa as a hotel, Ville sull'Arno comprises a historic heart and stylish suites surrounded by magnificent, natural gardens. Located directly on the River Arno’s shores the Ville dell’Arno is perfectly pitched between the terracotta rooftops of Florence and Tuscany’s gently rolling hills. The recently renovated boutique hotel has a tranquil location which is less than half an hour’s walk from some of Florence’s best cultural attractions.
The 45 neatly decorated rooms are distributed amongst three adjoining buildings in an eclectic mix of styles. Those in the central villa are the most traditional in style of which the top pick is the four loft rooms, two with hot tubs on their river-facing balconies. In the Loggiato annexe, the feel is more playful with details including wooden stools, flurries of still-life jars and mock colour tests on the walls. The Villino, the other annexe, is in a more contemporary with a minimalist style where most rooms come with river views and terraces.
Flora & Fauno is the new restaurant at Ville sull’Arno. Chef Martin Vitaloni likes to deliver interesting variations on Florentine classics including, tortello pappa al pomodoro, smoked ribollita and lamprey with scampi and Fois gras. A magical view accompanies outdoor dining in summer months, and a roaring log fire indoors keeps things cosy in winter.
The well tended garden is home to the decent sized heated outdoor swimming pool. The decadent basement spa is also well worth a visit.
