The bronzed faces dotting the streets and restaurants of Marbella, the luminous chat over the sobremesa, the catatonic bodies sprawled on the beaches of the Costa del Sol certainly suggest an indulgent holiday atmosphere.
However, at times to truly relax one needs to break from man-made land-locked comforts and take to the open sea. Due to its year-round temperate climate and its abundance of nautical activities for both experts and novices, the Costa del Sol makes the ideal spot for maritime mischief.

As many will know well, the main stomping ground for sailing enthusiasts in the Costa del Sol is the city of Puerto Banús. Just six kilometres south-west of Marbella, it was founded in 1971 by property developer José Banús. Banús and architect Noldi Schrek resisted building condos to accommodate scores of holiday-makers, instead basing the architecture of Puerto Banús on the style of Andalucían villages. The town’s marina has now grown to house up to 900 boats, including a number of super-yachts belonging to an international set.
The enticing marina is also home to many companies who offer a variety of seafaring activities; well-organised getaways where the Costa del Sol and its gleaming white villages can be seen from an alternative perspective, the vast azure lake that is the Mediterranean Sea.
