One of the most intractable problems of the 21st century is the lack of a good night's rest. Research has shown time and again that if we sacrifice sleep, we are impairing our ability to remember and learn. In the longer term sleep deprivation leads to mood swings, depression, obesity and heart disease.
It is for this reason that last year, Six Senses Spa, at Alpina Gstaad, Switzerland, launched a 3-day sleep programme that was so successful they’ve brought it back for a second year.

Designed by Six Senses Spas in Bangkok, the programme is said to boost the quality of relaxation and thus improve sleep by combining yoga nidra, pranayama and gentle yoga practice with relaxing spa treatments.
Yoga nidra, also known as yogic sleep or sleep with awareness, is a simple yet hugely effective practice most often taught lying down. Its goal is to induce full body relaxation and a deep meditative state of consciousness, addressing practitioners’ psychological, neurological and subconscious needs.

The course also provides a set of mind-body tools that can help guests achieve everyday well-being and often navigate some of life's hardest moments once they leave the clinic. Regular practice leads to the most profound level of relaxation, improved sleep patterns and a stronger immune system.
The programme requires a minimum of three days, however guests are invited to stay for up to two weeks to most effectively reform adequate sleeping patterns. www.thealpinagstaad.ch
