The NH Collection Cáceres Palacio de Oquendo hotel is a beautifully converted 16th-century palace just minutes away from the ancient Roman and Arab walls that surround Cáceres, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The whole city is easy to reach on foot from the hotel and with plenty of historical sights to visit from towers to cathedrals and churches. As well as sight seeing there are plenty of shops and restaurants and a green park close by.
The hotel may be from the 16th century, but rooms are completely up-to-date. Several of the rooms have a great outlook onto Plaza de San Juan – while one of the Superior rooms looks out onto the Arab wall. There are 86 rooms, with a choice of Standard, Superior and Junior suite. Each one is fresh and contemporary, with pale hardwood floors and a neutral colour scheme.
The Yuste Taperia Restaurante, a typical Spanish tapas restaurant and bar, is known as one of the warmest and friendliest places in town. Enjoy some local specialities such as jamón ibérico and Torta del Casar – a delicious local cheese, with a bottle of fine wine whilst gazing out over the Plaza San Juan. The vaulted ceilings are also worth a look and are typical of the Extremaduran architecture common to this region.
Bar La Cava is a great place to have a relaxing drink and tapas. It has huge floor to ceiling windows fronting the outside, and a terrace for sitting al fresco – look across to the church and you’ll see the storks nesting.
