With its restored 13th-century period property; gorgeous grounds lined with cypress trees and stone fountains; its fabulous food and wine; warm family hospitality; and a large variety of outdoor activities and sensual spa experiences, this is the perfect Tuscan hideaway.
Whether for a romantic weekend, a luxurious base for exploring Chianti, Siena and Florence or for an unforgettable fairytale wedding, everything is tailored towards complete relaxation and romance.
In 2001, Claus and Jeanette Thottrup stumbled across what was then a dilapidated ruin, nothing more than a crumbling hamlet, amidst fields of mud. It was lovingly and painstakingly renovated over a seven-year period; local craftsmen worked alongside artisans from around the world, and thanks to the planting of 250,000 plants and elaborate landscaping, the Borgo Santo Pietro is now an opulent but wonderfully informal country retreat.
The 15-bedroom hideaway features 8 guestrooms in the main house, three of which range from super to deluxe, and five suites, and six garden suites, four of which, have their own private garden. The jewel in the crown is the Santo Pietro Suite, ideal for those wanting the ultimate seclusion and luxury. The luxurious accommodations feature sumptuous antique-filled interiors - hand-carved beds and ornate chandeliers as well as deep velvet sofas, silk curtains, hand-painted frescoes and 18th-century portraits, giving it a medici-like decadence. Guests are surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds, which impart a feeling of peace and isolation, with its cypress-shaded lanes, rose and herb gardens, wild flowered fields and fruit orchards.
The hotel offers fine wines, a well-stocked wine cellar and gourmet cuisine, made from the finest and freshest local ingredients. Guests can dine in the hotel’s restaurant or at the exclusive chef’s table, or experience a romantic candle-lit dinner within the hotel’s magnificent grotto looking out onto the infinity pool, or lunch on large, stylish sofas and chaise longue at the Treehouse brasserie. The luxurious spa uses products from the famous Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella; one of the oldest pharmacies in the world. Activities include gourmet picnics, cooking lessons, horse-riding, art classes and flower arranging, among others.
