Many established watchmakers boast a tradition of building high precision sailing and navigational instruments, a heritage evident in both the style and function of today’s watches. Strong associations with this life aquatic are reflected everywhere, with brands such as Panerai even sponsoring the 18th Dubai International Boat Show in March this year. “It’s the perfect platform for us to share our passion for the sea,” said Officine Panerai CEO Angelo Bonati, speaking of the event.

Indeed, Panerai’s affiliation with the sea stretches back to the 1930s when it became supplier of underwater devices to the Italian Navy, including a range of watches created specifically for use in extreme conditions. Globally, the company is celebrating its sixth year as sponsor of the Classic Yachts Challenge, which includes a regatta of some of the world’s rarest vintage boats. In honour of this great event Panerai have released the Radomir Regatta, 1/8th Second Titanio – 47mm, a split second foudroyant chronograph featuring a scale for calculating boat speeds in knots. In brushed titanium with a polished bezel, it is watertight to 100 meters, precise to the eighth of a second, and keeps ticking for 42 hours.

Audemars Piguet – Royal Oak Offshore Diver
is the brand’s most prestigious diver's watch, geared for the most extreme water-based activities. Resistant to an incredible 300 meters, it can withstand the kind of deep-water pressure experienced by professional divers. For those who just like to languish in the shallows of their pool, it is beautifully engineered as a sturdy, reliable timepiece that is visible in the dark, is salt water resistant, shock resistant and self-winding. Importantly for the Middle East market, it also looks bold and elegant on the wrist.

Glashutte – Sport Evolution Impact Tourbillon pays tribute to the brand’s nautical past while using innovative design to deliver a timepiece that is tough, resistant and flexible. Inside, ticks the automatic Caliber 94, delivering exceptional precision and balance. The markers are inlaid with SuperLumiNova, a luminous substance which guarantees its legibility. That, along with the unique placement of sweep hands, creates a strong, masculine appearance.

Omega – Seamaster Planet Ocean Liquidmetal Limited Edition
will undoubtedly be the envy of your boating or diving friends. Made from an amorphous metallic glass alloy, it can be easily molded when hot and cools and hardens to a toughness three times that of stainless steel. Driven by the brand’s Co-axial caliber 2500 that guarantees long-term chronometric performance, this devastatingly handsome watch is built to last a lifetime.
