Baume & Mercier, Top 10 Watches in the World 2011 Preview

by 08 December 2010

If you are just starting to get into Swiss mechanical watches, then Baume & Mercier's new Classima collection is a great place to start. At SIHH 2011, Baume & Mercier will be launching innovative models for this hugely popular collection.

Classima Automatic Jumping Hour
The classic silvered "barleycorn" guilloché dial, the black Arabic numerals and the beautiful alligator strap are just some of the beautiful details of this watch. What's truly unique about this Classima is its jumping hour function, powered by the automatic Dubois Depraz 14400 movement. Adorned with the "Côtes de Genève" motif, the movement, as well as the oscillating weight engraved with the brand's PHI symbol, can be admired on the back of the watch through the sapphire crystal case back. Limited to just 500 pieces, the steel-cased timepiece is a great collectible piece.

Classima Red Gold Dual Time-zone and Power Reserve
This Classima is slightly smaller, measuring 39 mm in diameter (the Automatic Jumping Hour measures 43 mm). The 18-carat red gold case and the elegant black dial with straight-line guilloché pattern make a glamorous yet sophisticated statement. The self-winding Soprod 9035 movement, with the "Côtes de Genève" motif, powers the dual time-zone, power reserve and date function, which is displayed at the 3 o'clock position. This new Classima also features the brand's PHI symbol on its oscillating weight, which you can see through the sapphire crystal case back.

Both watches are water-resistant up to 30 meters, which means they can transition easily from the office to a weekend on the yacht. Driven by sophisticated design and fine watchmaking tradition, Baume & Mercier's motto is "Accept only perfection. Only manufacture watches of the highest quality." Well-said!
