Abu Dhabi, Cloud Nine Cigar & Champagne Bar

Great name for a cigar bar! Cloud Nine is part of the Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel & Restaurant, at the heart of Abu Dhabi and on the beachfront. The animal prints and Oriental carpets may be a little kitsch at first glance, but none of this matters when you are inside the walk-in humidor presenting a large range of cigars. You can accompany the aromatic smoke with vintage champagne, cocktails, cognac, and a variety of bar snacks including oysters and Beluga caviar. Open every day from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Every day, there is a happy hour promotion with 20% discount on all drinks from 5 to 8 p.m.

Abu Dhabi, Havana Club

Havana Club is at the Emirates Palace Abu Dhabi, one of the only seven-star hotels in the world. Havana Club, all palms, tobacco leaf walls, and luxurious leather settees, recalls the plush, masculine atmospheres of Graham Greene novels. Cigars are accompanied by a selection of fine cognacs and armagnacs, as well as good cocktails, and live music on most nights. It is open from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Beijing, Redmoon, Grand Hyatt Beijing

Redmoon at the Grand Hyatt Beijing is primarily a swanky bar and restaurant, but there is an in-house cigar room with a fine selection of cigars. These can be accompabied by cocktails, wines and premium whiskies. Modern music is performed on traditional Chinese instruments, making for quite a different type of experience. The restaurant menu includes oysters and Dom Pérignon. Open for drinks, cocktails and cigards 11.30 a.m. to 1.00 a.m., and for lunch (11.30 a.m.-2.30 p.m. Mon to Fri) and dinner (5.00 p.m.-1 a.m., stays open until 2.00 a.m. on Fri and Sat).

Dubai, Monty Cristo's

Another prize for Monty Cristo's, a great name for a cigar lounge in a hotel with a golf course! This is part of The Address Montgomerie Dubai, where, as well as a cigar, you can enjoy a game of billiards, or a round of golf on the Address Montgomerie course. Interiors at Monty Cristo's feature large leather armchairs surrounded by Colin Montgomerie (great Scottish golfer) paraphernalia, but more importantly, there is a truly superb selection of cigars and single-malt whiskys. There are also tapas and appetizers. Monty Cristo's is open every day from 12.30 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Dubai, Library Bar

The Library Bar at the Ritz-Carlton Dubai has interiors featuring leather sofas and winged chairs, and a relatively restricted cigar menu (Cohiba, Monte Cristo, Partagas, Romeo y Julieta, Hoyo de Monterrey, Punch). Its cocktail menu includes Ritz-Carlton signature recipes, and there is an extensive dinner menu with Italian, international and Arabic specialities. Smokers who enjoy golf can play a round on one of the two courses in the vicinity, and the Splendido restaurant presents Italian cuisine by Corrado Pani. The location is particularly interesting for its beachfront setting.

Dubai, Eclipse

Eclipse, part of the InterContinental Dubai Festival City in Dubai, is on the 26th floor, and so offers great views while you enjoy a cigar from the humidor. The setting is unashamedly modern, with dark wood and chrome. You can choose from vintage champagne, cocktails (including one of the best Martinis in Dubai). The bar specializes in champagne cocktails such as the "Jacuzzi Martini," with raspberry vodka and liqueur, pineapple juice and Joseph Perrier Brut Rosé. I'd stick to the cigar...

Düsseldorf, Capella Bar & Cigar Lounge

The Capella Bar, part of the Breidenbacher Hof hotel, claims to have the largest walk-in humidor in Europe, with a selection of over 150 brands of cigars. It won the Bar of the Year in 2009, and the Glenfiddich Award for Bar Culture; the bar manager Ewald Stromer won the Gault & Millau Bartender of the Year award in 2006. The result of these successes is a superb cocktail and food menu that provides an exciting sensorial journey. There is a great selection of malt whiskies. The Cigar Lounge has timber panelling and leather flooring, with a range of 124 Cuban and Dominican cigars from the humidor. The bar is open every day from 3 p.m.

Florence, Grand Hotel Villa Cora

Grand Hotel Villa Cora, located with superb views over the Boboli Gardens from the hills outside the centre of Florence, has a well-stocked cigar room, where you can sample selected spirits and consume the finest cigars from around the world. The experience is enhanced by the hotel's truly superb interiors.

Frankfurt, Cigarrum

The Cigarrum at the Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof Hotel in Frankfurt has the classic club atmosphere, and it specializes in rum, with over 40 quality labels, as well as cigars. The bar menu has à la carte food items, home-made chocolates, cognac, armagnacs and brandies, as well as wines served by the glass. On Wednesday nights there is live music, and tastings of chocolate, wine and cigars. The bar is open from Monday to Saturday, 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Istanbul, Le Fumoir

This bar at Ciragan Palace Kempinski is very smart, and provides a great location - with fantastic views of the Bosphorus - in which to enjoy a good cigar with a champagne cocktail, a select malt whisky or cognac. The bar is actually in the hotel's lovely green gardens. The humidors are hand-crafted. This bar is opene every day from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. in winter, and from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. in summer.

London, Garden Room, The Lanesborough London

The Garden Room is a superbly luxurious and mellow venue in Knightsbridge, part of The Lanesborough London, with a lovely plant-filled décor. Its humidor stocks a remarkable collection of Cuban and Pre-Castro cigars. For New Year's Eve, the Garden Room will be open from 4 p.m., with a special champagne and cigar combination: a glass of Krug 1998 and a Cohiba Behika 54 cigar. At other times of year, the bar is open from Monday to Saturday, 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., and from 4 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. on Saturdays.

London, The Garden Pavillion, The Ritz London

The Garden Pavillion at The Ritz - an institution in London for over a century - is an interior designed to provide a place in which to enjoy a fine cigar when weather does not permit guests to sit in the garden. It comprises the new Cigar Shop and Tasting Room, with a superb floor-to-ceiling humidor with vintage Cuban and New World cigars. It is perhaps the most exclusive Cigar Shop in the UK.

The cigar sommelier is on hand for advice, and all waiters are expert in cutting, lighting and serving fine cigars. The Cigar Shop and Tasting Room are open from 2.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. every day. Dress code: smart casual. For information and reservations, phone +44 (0)20 7300 2370.

Milan, Casa del Habano

Strangely there are very few venues dedicated to cigars in Milan. One is Casa del Habano, a franchise run by a Cuban company that guarantees the quality of the "puros." In Milan, it is in Via Anfossi 28, which was originally a tobacconists run by a family who decided to further their passion for good cigars.

The venue provides the opportunity to purchase the finest Cuban cigars. Quality is guaranteed by a walk-in humidor. Like other Casa del Habana stores worldwide, there are limited-edition and exclusive cigars from time to time. The shop also stocks St. Dupont lighters, humidors, cigar holders in carujano leather, and climate-controlled cabinets. Next to Casa del Habano there is a winebar, Bistrot Isola, open from breakfast to 1.00 a.m., including a menu for lunch and dinner, and the classic Milan happy hour.
