Just when we thought shopping in Istanbul couldn’t get more chic, the design and artisan experts at Armaggan surprise us by opening a brand new seven-storey boutique right across from the Grand Bazaar, on the beautiful pedestrian-only Nuruosmaniye Street. The brand’s name is a transliteration of the word ‘armaÄŸan’, meaning ‘gift’ in Turkish.
This expansive and ultra-stylish store is filled with plenty of unique options to pick up a special souvenir from your travels.
Armaggan Nuruosmaniye is one of the most elegantly decorated stores in the Old City, ideal for luxury lovers to stop in for a visit. Starting from the ground floor, where you are greeted by a collection of opulent jewellery inspired by Turkish history, the importance given to detail in the store is astounding. The six-storey wall garden, the exquisite blown-glass chandelier covering the whole ceiling, the grand stairs and the hand-woven carpets all point to the glory and wealth of traditional Anatolian arts and crafts.
The luxurious decor sets the scene for a collection of wide-ranging Armaggan products such as home textiles, natural-dye silk kaftans and dresses, jewellery, design objects, and leather goods. Added to the mix this time around are the YESAM, Culinary Arts Center, and Armaggan Art Gallery. In its beautiful white marble open kitchen, YESAM organizes cooking classes for Turkish cuisine enthusiasts.
The Art Gallery, supported by the TCF (Turkish Cultural Foundation) features works by prominent Turkish contemporary artists such as sculptor Yılmaz Zenger, painter Burhan DoÄŸançay and a selection of ceramic artists from Sofa Chicago and Sofa New York Art Fairs. The Armaggan brand has been known for its efforts to revive traditional dying and weaving methods, with the support it has provided for the TCF’s Natural Dye Research, Development and Application Center (DATU).
Armaggan’s new space also showcases its ability to support and foster the local culinary scene. Highlights include the brand’s line of natural and regional food products. Nar Gourmet offers unusual culinary delights such as mandarin and quince vinegars, sour fruit condiments, flavoured olive oils and regional olives. For you sweet tooths, munch on Turkish delight, candy varieties, fruit molasses, sun dried fruits and marmalades. Nar Lokantası, serves up a scrumptious variety of Turkish and Ottoman delicacies on the sixth floor.
Trust us, you do not want to miss out on Armaggan Nuruosmaniye when visiting the Old City.
