Why Jessica Biel got top Dior honours

YESSICA - Raf Simons' first Dior collection is quasi-sacred. To a mere mortal, Jessica Biel wore a pretty vintage-esque pink dress to the Total Recall premiere. But to those of us who have already photographically memorized the Dior Fall 2012 couture collection, Jessica Biel became the third person on the PLANET to wear an outfit from the collection out in public.

The actress joins an uber exclusive club of three, so far - Marion Cotillard, Rachel Weisz and herself. Dior is clearly strategically planning its slow and decisive Raf introduction to the public, selecting starlets with the utmost care.

Marion was a clear shoe-in to be the first with her longtime standing as spokeswoman for the Lady Dior bag and the fact that her Batman-flick The Dark Knight Rises was hitting theatres. Rachel Weisz also had a major film come out this week with The Bourne Legacy, not to mention that she has a spotless, drama-free rep and a Bulgari (LVMH-owned) campaign under her belt.

Jessica represents a shift to the younger side of the Dior woman, hence the choice of this structured pink gown with a corseted waist and deep practical pockets for paparazzi posing. The dress was one of my personal favourites in the collection as it pays tribute the classic Christian Dior design while still marking Raf Simons' own identity as a construction-centric creative director.
